Revving up your immune system
Are you getting frequent colds, aches and pains? Why not try meditation to kick-start your immune system?
Researcher Richard J. Davidson PhD and his colleagues at the University of Wisconsin conducted studies on how meditation affects brain activity.
The study involved 48 employees at a biotechnology company who were given a flu vaccine. Half received weekly meditation training and were asked to continue meditating at home.
After eight weeks, the meditating group produced more antibodies in response to the vaccine than the non-meditators. The meditating group also showed signs of increased activity in areas of the brain related to positive emotion in addition to the physical benefits. Physical effects continued for up to four months later.
Meditation.
It does an immune system good.
