Ask the Coach

Welcome to our new column Ask the Coach. Many people have sent in queries about what direction they should take as they move towards the next level in self-development. We put our heads together and thought, “Why not ask an expert?”

And where are all our favorite experts? In the SuccessTracs Coaching program of course.

So, every month we’re going to send your questions to a different SuccessTracs coach,  tapping into their wisdom to bring you insight, inspiration and clarity on your journey to success.

To launch this column, what better choice than SuccessTracs’ Amanda Vaz, who was named 2006 Coach of the Year.

One of Amanda’s gifts is the ability to see the greatness in her clients and then help them transfer that greatness into their career or business to achieve optimal results. She strives to touch, move, and inspire people to live their dreams. Go here to read Amanda’s full profile.

Here are just a few of the questions that readers have sent in:

Hey Coach: Every year at this time, I say I’m going to get fit. I sign up at a local gym and go for a few weeks. Then the weather is bad or there’s a big project at the office and I end up not going. What can I do to keep myself on track and really follow through? – Flabby in Flin Flon

Dear FFF: Find physical activities that you are passionate about. You’ll be far more likely to succeed in your goals if you enjoy what you are doing. One of the best ways of keeping on track is to sign up with a friend – you can encourage each other. Expect to have several small setbacks but stay positive through the process. It is a lifestyle change and it will take some time to make it a habit.

Dear Coach: I’ve been feeling overwhelmed by all the problems that keep happening in my life. I know that perception determines how I create my life. What kinds of things can I do to shift my perceptions for the new year? – Shape Shifting in Shawinigan

Dear Shape Shifter: Think about the life you want and begin each day in a positive way with an intention or positive affirmation such as “Each day I create the life I want.” Start a gratitude journal and write at least 3 positive things you are grateful for each day. Tune into the little voice in your head and whenever negative thoughts arise, simply say, “Thank you for sharing.”

Dear Coach: I attended the 3-day Millionaire Mind seminar back in May. No, I'm not a millionaire yet, but my mind, my attitude and my beliefs have been changing ever since. Yes, I'm still a work in progress, and I know without a doubt that other changes will soon manifest. How can I keep moving forward? What will help keep me on target with my goals and dreams? – Half Baked in New Jersey

Dear Half Baked: Are you ready to get cooked? Noticing that your thought patterns are changing is the first step towards achieving your goals. Surround yourself with a cheerleading squad—people who will be there for you during the highs and lows. Find a mentor—someone who has created the kind of life you want and learn as much as possible from them. And remember to give yourself a “snap” when you catch your mind engaged in negative thinking.

Dear Coach: I have spent the past 22 years since high school in the banking and investment industry. I just fell into it and never left. I am now 42 years old with a 5 year old daughter and a great husband, but I am tired of my job. I am in the process of leaving the company I work for and I am going crazy wondering what I should do. How do I find out what I should do and make a mid-life change? Any suggestions? – Burnt Out and Stuck in Boulder

Dear Burnt Out: Go for it honey! Trust that you will find the answers are looking for. Begin by looking back to the dreams and inspirations of your childhood. Now list your strengths, skills and passions. Do you see a pattern there? That’s where you may find your new career.

You have a supportive husband and that will certainly help you through the transition ahead. Keep talking to others who are supportive, such as your family, a personal coach, spiritual advisor or mentor. Seek fresh insights and new resources. Above all, be kind to yourself; change is stressful whether negative or positive.

It has been my honour to answer your questions this month.
